Our co-founder Carine Ireland leads our womens football element. A former player for Liverpool FC in 2003 and rostered on Stanford University squad, Stanford University and UCLA Anderson School of Management graduate Carine has been coaching girls and womens players for many years from grassroots to international and professional players and has been managing teams and clubs for the past 15 years. Carine has led over 100 tours for groups of 20-100 persons for 15 years. Tour participants will explore the history of the birth of womens football and meet key people in clubs and at the University of Liverpool in supporting the growth of womens football Participants will watch a womens professional team play, watch practice sessions, visit stadiums and youth academies at the womens teams of Liverpool FC Manchester City, Manchester United, Preston Ladies F.C. The Northwest of England is considered the birthplace of womens professional football and the first international match was played in the region. Preston-based Dick Kerr’s Ladies team regularly played in front of 20-50,000 audiences in the early part of last century. Less than a year after a match played before 53,000 fans at Everton's Goodison Park, the 'Dick Kerr Ladies', as well as all the other women's teams in England, lost their official recognition by the FA and womens football went into post war decline., however, the past 5 years the popularity of womens football has gained increasing popularity. The NW region is home to several top tier womens teams. Everton Ladies who have won the Premier League once & Premier League Cup once & FA Women's Cup twice and Liverpool Ladies who have won the FA Women's Super League twice and Manchester City who have won the FA Women's Cup 2 x FA Women's Super League once.
Participants will visit stadiums and youth academies of Liverpool FC renowned for developing Michael Owen (European Footballer of Year), Steven Gerrard (England Captain), Jamie Carragher, Steve MacManaman and Robbie Fowler & Everton FC (Wayne Rooney), Manchester United (Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Marcus Rashford, Ryan Giggs, Bobby Charlton, Mark Hughes), Manchester City, Bolton Wanderers, Tranmere Rovers and Blackburn Rovers. During the visit participants will meet coaches and officials of the clubs as well as tour the club museum and trophy rooms
John is one of the most respected and experienced youth coaches and academy assessors in football. He spent 18 years at Liverpool FC as Academy Manager & U18 & U19 coach, winning FA Youth Cup 2 times and 7 years with Doublepass where he assessed over 200 English Premier League & Football League clubs and MLS Academies & US Soccer Development Academies evaluating & ranking Academies into 4 categories in order to positively impact the development of home-grown talent. At Liverpool FC John coached many legendary players through their youth careers such as: European Footballer of the Year & England player Michael Owen, European Champions League and England captain Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher. Steve MacManaman and Robbie Fowler. John was England U16 Manager/Coach, England 'C' Team Manager where he coached Wes Brown, Joe Cole and others. John will present multiple micro-lectures including Q&A on the following topics, and more.
Our co-founder Gary Ireland is a graduate of FIMBA with a dissertation on Cost-Benefit Analysis of Liverpool FC, Inter Milan & Chicago Fire Academies, and studied there while coaching at the Liverpool FC Academy. Gary will lead tour participants of a tour of FIMBA where tour participants will meet with current and founding FIMBA professors and directors as well as learn about FIMBA and visit a FIMBA class.
